Description

Responsibilities
  • Responsibilities include adult and pediatric perfusion, transplantation (heart, lung, and liver), circulatory support (VAD, ECMO, and peri-operative IABP), along with autotransfusion services.
  • The team provides support for pediatric and adult cardiac procedures, including CABG, Valve (both conventional and minimally invasive approaches), aortic procedures, TAVR, OHT, lung transplant, and XVIVO. 
  • The team has extensive involvement with ECMO management and VAD prep/monitoring. 
  • Perfusion support is also provided to non-cardiac surgical specialties, including liver transplant, autotransfusion, and HIPEC. 
  • The perfusionist will also share teaching responsibilities for all perfusion school affiliate students, as well as clinical instruction and assessment responsibilities for the operation of extracorporeal circulation to perfusion students, medical staff, and ancillary medical staff.
  • Involvement in research opportunities and in-service education available.  

This Perfusionist role is an integral part of the cardiac surgical team, using independent judgment and providing the expertise regarding extracorporeal technologies and pharmacologies needed in the delivery of patient care.

Qualifications
  • ABCP Certified or a graduate from an accredited perfusion training program who is board eligible. 
  • Trusted relationships with surgeons and other colleagues.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, be able to think critically, and work efficiently in both team and independent settings in a dynamic cardiac surgical program.
  • Open and welcomes the opportunity for 18 months of proctoring by colleagues to gain knowledge of the technology, procedures, and processes and, most importantly, to develop relationships with surgeons, team, et al.
